We've reached an impasse!

Help! The office walls are up and painted, the doors are hung, door knobs installed, the desks and shelves are attached and we need to address the flooring. NOW! But, we have totally waffled. Originally we were going to do carpet. Now we are torn. Ed doesn't want a padding b/c if the basement ever flooded we'd have a mess. The basement NEVER floods except once when the sump pump failed to kick on due to a minor issue that we weren't aware of when it poured rain for like ever. Anyway Ed thinks we should lay a loose carpet wall to wall so it can be easily removed. I say, "EWWWWW". Then we considered epoxy covering. But, we'd have to scrape all those paint drops on the floor that we didn't care about dropping b/c we were planning to carpet. Plus, the floor would need to be etched with acid b/c it was sealed at one time. Next, we considered ceramic tile nd linoleum squares. And that's where we're at today. What say you. I just want the office finished!
